Our Monarchy & National Identity
Pride in Our Past, Unity for Our Future
Britain's identity is shaped by centuries of democratic evolution, historic institutions, and shared values across its diverse nations. We stand for the preservation of our constitutional monarchy, respect for all UK citizens regardless of ethnicity or religion, and the strengthening of national unity. This section outlines our vision for a modern, inclusive, and democratic British identity.
Preserving a Modern Monarchy
We support the constitutional monarchy as a unifying, apolitical figurehead. The Royal Family plays an important ceremonial and cultural role, including weekly non-binding advisory meetings with the Prime Minister. We believe their influence should remain traditional and symbolic, with no political power.
The Crown’s Role In Modern Britain
Royal funding will continue under the Sovereign Grant to reflect the monarchy's role in diplomacy, tourism, and heritage, maintaining transparency and public confidence. Calls for abolition or political reform of the monarchy are not supported.
The Role of Parliament in a Modern Democracy
We oppose the introduction of a fully written constitution. Britain’s unwritten constitutional conventions provide necessary flexibility and uphold parliamentary sovereignty. Codifying this framework could introduce unnecessary legal rigidity and obscure centuries of democratic precedent. Where clarification is needed, we support continued evolution of conventions through debate and democratic institutions.
A New Upper House
We propose abolishing the unelected House of Lords and replacing it with an elected second chamber based on proportional representation. This would improve democratic accountability and ensure regional representation across the UK. Hereditary peerages and lifetime appointments do not reflect a modern democratic society. Instead, we propose fixed terms, public mandates, and transparency in legislative oversight.
Strength Through British Unity
We will promote inclusive British identity that celebrates all UK nations. England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, while respecting individual multicultural traditions. Shared symbols like the Union Jack and collective civic values will be upheld. Britishness must be civic, not ethnic. Regardless of race, religion, or background, if you are a British citizen, you belong. We support nationwide education on UK history, the expansion of national holidays, and the use of British symbols for unity rather than division.
Power to the Regions
We support the creation of elected English regional assemblies to ensure fair representation outside Westminster. Power must be balanced across the North, Midlands, and South to address economic and social disparities. We do not support further centralisation nor complete federalisation.
Symbols of Unity & Pride
The national anthem, Union Jack, and royal imagery are integral to our heritage. As are those of the individual countries that make up Great Britain. These should be preserved and respected, not reinterpreted for political purposes. While we acknowledge Britain’s complex history, our traditions must be used to unite rather than divide.
