Fighting Poverty with Fairness
Putting People First in Welfare
The United Vision Party is committed to a compassionate and functional welfare state — one that protects vulnerable people, promotes independence, and restores dignity to the lives of millions. In the face of rising living costs, inequality, and hardship, our welfare policies will be based on fairness, responsibility, and opportunity.
Universal Credit, Done Right
Universal Credit will be reformed to increase payments in line with the true cost of living. The five-week wait for first payment will be abolished, and the system overhauled to become more humane, responsive, and efficient. Work incentives will remain, but no one should be left destitute during transitions.
Dignity, Access, & Opportunity
We will enhance support for disabled citizens by raising disability benefits in line with inflation, simplifying medical assessments, and ensuring they are fair, consistent, and respectful. Tailored housing, transport, and employment support will be introduced to reduce barriers to independence and inclusion.
Lifting Children Out of Poverty
For families, child benefits will be more effectively targeted by means-testing wealthier households while providing bonus payments to low-income families. Our goal is to eradicate child poverty through direct financial support, food security programs, and educational access.
Maintaining Trust in the System
To protect the integrity of the system, tougher measures will be introduced to detect and penalise benefit fraud — particularly large-scale or organised cases — while minimising administrative error and ensuring the innocent are not punished.
Better Pay for Lower Incomes
In-work poverty will be tackled through a combination of higher minimum wages, housing support, and expanded union rights. Low-paid workers will receive tax credits, reduced transport costs, and access to affordable childcare to make employment viable and rewarding.
Caring for the Carers
Carers — the unsung heroes of our society — will receive the recognition and support they deserve. We will introduce a living wage for full-time carers, increase Carer’s Allowance, remove earnings restrictions, and provide dedicated respite and mental health support services.
