Digital Innovation with Accountability
Building Britain’s Digital Future
The digital revolution is reshaping every aspect of our lives—from work and communication to security and innovation. To harness these changes for the public good, we propose a forward-thinking digital strategy that protects individual freedoms, closes the digital divide, and positions Britain as a global technology leader.
Universal Internet Access
We will accelerate the rollout of full-fibre broadband and 5G infrastructure across the UK, with a special focus on rural and underserved areas. Infrastructure grants, public and private partnerships, will ensure digital inclusion is not limited by geography or income.
AI with Accountability
We support responsible and transparent AI development. A National AI Ethics Commission will be established to ensure AI systems are safe, fair, and accountable. Legislation will require impact assessments for algorithms used in public services and critical industries. Automation must benefit society. We will establish retraining programs for workers displaced by AI, and promote human-centred technology in healthcare, education, and logistics.
Digital Rights & Privacy
We will update and strengthen the UK’s data protection laws, ensuring transparency, consent, and accountability in how data is collected and used. Citizens will have the right to know when they are being tracked or profiled. We will oppose any unwarranted expansion of surveillance powers and commit to encryption as a safeguard against overreach. Children’s data will be given special protection, and tech firms will be held to account for violations.
Protecting Users Online
We will introduce new regulations to hold digital platforms accountable for promoting harmful content, misinformation, and algorithmic discrimination. This includes fines, mandatory transparency, and platform liability for failure to remove illegal material. Tech giants must operate under UK law, pay fair taxes, and respect our democratic processes. We will empower regulators with enforcement powers to ensure compliance.
Balancing Technology & Rights
Digital policing tools such as facial recognition, body cameras, and predictive systems must meet strict ethical and legal standards. We will enforce transparency, oversight, and opt-out mechanisms to prevent misuse and abuse of digital surveillance. No digital system should undermine civil liberties. Our vision is one of safety and freedom in balance.
Digital Education & Access
A national digital literacy curriculum will be introduced from primary school onwards, including lessons in cyber security, AI awareness, online rights, and critical thinking. For adults, we will offer free digital upskilling centres and community tech hubs to bridge the knowledge gap.
